“I received a commissioned piece as a gift.
Art was a part of life I hadn’t really explored yet.
As preparation, Anook took me to a museum for a full day - just looking together. 
It was eye-opening. She shared insights, stories, and personal perspectives that made art feel accessible and alive. My uncertainty about ‘how to look’ at art completely disappeared.
Afterward, we sat down for an open, honest conversation - about life, and especially mine.
Some time later, I was invited to her studio. The work was almost finished.
A tense moment - it was her interpretation of my life and future.
She unveiled it.
I was overwhelmed. The imagery, the feeling, it was powerful and beautiful.
Then she explained the layers, the symbols, the meaning behind it.
It made the work even more personal.
Incredible how she translated a conversation into such a visual language.
It now has a central place in our living room. Every time I look at it, I’m reminded how special it is to own something so personal.”

For the project Helmets Full of Stories, I visualized the story of veteran Edwin de Wolf, who lost his leg as a sergeant in Srebrenica.
The work “The map is not the territory” reflects his fall from the world he loved, and how he found meaning again.
It is now part of a traveling exhibition on Dutch peace missions and their impact, and is displayed at the military rehabilitation center in Doorn.
